Governors
Abbotskerswell governing body is an experienced group of volunteers with representatives from the parent body, teaching staff and local community. Together we help set the strategic vision and direction for the school, support with the appointment of senior staff, keep an overview of finance and resources and act as a critical friend, ensuring that the highest standards are attained in all that the school does.
In all types of schools, governing bodies should have a strong focus on three core strategic functions:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Mrs Jenny Hersey
I am a mum to 2 daughters who attend Abbotskerswell School and are very happy here.
I have 25 years of experience in primary education starting out as primary school teacher and later working for Manchester LA as a maths consultant.
Being a governor means that I can really get involved at a strategic level, to help our School continue to be the nurturing and lively learning environment my girls enjoy.

It is a pleasure to work at Abbotskerswell alongside a highly talented staff and governor team who strive to make the school the best learning environment they can for all children. I am very proud of their efforts in developing the school into what it is today and as it continues to strive to produce the best possible outcomes for the children in the school. The children at the school are definitely our key asset and I know that all of the staff and governors here at the school feel privileged to be able to work with them.
