Abbotskerswell Primary School

ICT & Computing

Our ICT & Computing Lead is Mr Ryan Chidler.

At Abbotskerswell Primary School we aim to deliver the skills needed to understand the objectives within the new curriculum topic areas, where these will be of benefit to our children. Computing is delivered both through cross-curricular opportunities and as a timetabled lesson. The ICT suite is timetabled for each class to use during the week. Children also have access to a bank of iPads networked computers and secure internet use in each classroom. We are constantly reflecting on the technology needs and aim to provide children with the skills and equipment that facilitates their drive to be life-long learners.

Computing Curriculum

Within our Computing Curriculum we cover many areas that help children understand the wider uses of technology beyond the classroom and school environment. We teach Computing on a rolling programme and cover data handling, animation, coding, music and generic skills (including word processing, presentations and internets searching).

Online Safety Curriculum

Our children are taught regular Online Safety lessons. Our aim is to ensure children are educated about the benefits and risks of the online world as well as how to deal with any problems they come across. Our Online Safety Curriculum focuses on underpinning knowledge and behaviours that can help pupils to navigate the online world safely and confidently regardless of the device, platform or app.
The underpinning knowledge and behaviours include:

  • How to evaluate what they see online.
  • How to recognise techniques used for persuasion.
  • Online behaviour.
  • How to identify online risks.
  • How and when to seek support.

Further information can be found in our Online Safety policy available to download from the Policies page.
